1858

Extract from the Hamilton Speculator (Canada).

5th August, Mr. James S Forrest – We observe from the Hamilton Speculator that our late townsman Baillie Forrest has a partnership with his son in law Mr. Robert Pool, opened a new Grocery store and Provision store in Hamilton, Upper Canada.

1861

Marriage – 2nd May – at Hayknowes Cottage, Annan 22nd ult. Mr. John Pool, Postmaster here to Miss Elizabeth Baxter, second daughter of the late Mr. James Campbell, Tatanagouche, Nova Scotia.

1863

Death – 29th August – at Newcastle, Canada West, on the 24th July Aged 21 years William, eldest surviving son of Mr. John Pool, Joiner, Newcastle, formerly of Annan – the deceased left Hayknowes where he had been residing for his health and died within a week of his arrival at home.

1869

Marriage – 4th November – at Cottonwood, British Columbia on the 25th August by the Reverend James Reynard, Mr. Robert Pool to Miss. E. S. Hamilton.

1871

Birth – 2nd February – at Cottonwood, Rauch, British Columbia on the 29th September last, the wife of Mr. Robert Pool – of a son.

The Scottish American Journal of the 28th September (Observer 13th October) informs us that; ‘The Reverend George. J. Caie of St. John’s, New Brunswick has returned home after a pleasant visit to Scotland and other parts of Europe. While in Scotland Mr. Caie visited Annan, when he returned to Nova Scotia he was accompanied by his brother Mr. Robert Caie of the firm of Caie and Poole, Merchants, Annan.‘

1874

Death – 13th March – at New Annan, County Colchester, Canada, on the 13th January last, in the 73rd year of her age, Mary Murdoch or Baxter (a native of Dornock) sister of the late Mrs. William Pool of Hayknowes – she leaves only one younger brother and one sister of the same family who emigrated from Dumfries in the ‘Thomson’s Packet’ in the year 1821.

Marriage – 20th November – at Newcastle, Upper Canada, on the 15th ult, by the Reverend Archiebald Cross at residence of the brides father Isaac Lewis Strowger, 2nd son of the late William Strowger, to Nellie, eldest daughter of John Pool, esq., Newcastle and grand daughter of the late William Pool, Hayknowes and the late Mr. Joseph Hetherington, Clarencefield.

1875

Death – 18th June – death of an Annanite – Canada – one of the early settlers, Mrs. Janet Pool, relict of John Pool, died at the residence of her son Irving Pool in Strathroy on the 22nd inst, at the mature age of 86 years. She emigrated to Canada in 1841 and settled in the township of Ekfrid. The family consisted of 5 sons and 2 daughters. She was born in the Parish of Annan.

1891

Death – 9th October – at Newcastle, Toronto, on the 4th ult. John Pool, age 76 years, a native of Annan.

1899

Marriage – 21st April – at St. George’s Church, Penang, on the 24th ult, by the Reverend H.C.Dimkerley M.A., Colonial Chaplin – James Melmore Halliday, only son of the late William Halliday, Annan, to Janet Nicholson Pool (Nettie), younger daughter of the late Benjamin Nicholson Pool.

1904

Marriage – 6th May – at Woodbank Mansion Hotel, Dumfries, on the 30th April, by the Right Reverend Dr. Gillespie, Moderator of the General Assembly, assisted by the Reverend J. Dinwiddle, Ruthwell – Gordon Campbell Dickson, Assoc. Glasgow Tech. College, Mining Engineer, Capetown, son of Charles Arkoll Dickson Esq., Merchant, Capetown, formerly of Clarencefield, Ruthwell, to Mary Pool, 2nd Daughter of W.J.P. Beattie of Netherdyke, Annan and late of Hope Lodge, Moffat.
