John Douglas Pool - Article - 25th March 1891

Dumfries Police Court

At this court on Saturday - Baillie Kirk on the bench - Two youths named William McEwan and John Douglas Pool pleaded not guilty to a charge of having on Friday, in High Street, caused an obstruction of the public footpath by loitering or standing thereon to the obstruction, annoyance, or danger of the passengers. After hearing the evidence against them the prisoners declared that the police had said they had a charge against them for theft, and if they could not get them convicted for that they would have them convicted for something else. This story the police denied. The case was found proven, and a penalty of 7s 6d, or five days imprisonment was imposed.
