Funeral of Superintendent Pool

The funeral of the late Superintendent Pool, of the Dumfriesshire Constabulary, took place on Wednesday afternoon from the Police Buildings to Dumfries Cemetery, and as the procession passed along English Street and High Street, which were busier than usual on account of the fair held that day, it attracted a large measure of mournful interest. A service was conducted at the house by the Rev. Dr. Paton. The coffin, which was covered with a number of handsome wreaths sent by relatives and friends, was carried to the hearse by Inspector Clark, Dumfries; Inspector MacIntosh, Annan; Inspector Bell, Lockerbie; Sub-Inspector Jardine, Dumfries; Sub-Inspector Hope, Thornhill; and Sub-Inspector Scaife, Langholm, and on arriving at the cemetery these officers bore it to the grave, which is in the upper portion of the burial grounds. Among the floral tributes was one from the members of the county police force, bearing the words, "In affectionate remembrance, from Dumfries constabulary." The hearse was preceded to the cemetery by nineteen members of the police, wearing their helmets and white gloves, and marching in double file. The six Inspectors marched on each side of the hearse. The chief mourners were Mr. David Pool, sergeant in the Metropolitan police force, and Mr. Robert Pool, Newbie engineering works, Annan. A large and representative company attended to pay a last tribute of respect to deceased, including Sheriff Campion, Mr. Charles McKie, sheriff clerk; Mr. H. C. Irving of Burnfoot, chairman of Law and Parliamentary Bills Committee of the county; Mr. James Houston of Marchfield, chairman of the Joint Committee of county and burgh; Mr. James H. McGowan, clerk of the peace; Mr. John Robson, county clerk; Chief Constable Gordon, Mr. C. S. Phyn, procurator-fiscal; Mr. Malcolm, chief constable of the burgh; Mr. John F. Cormack, clerk to the Annan Fishery Board. At the grave, service was conducted by the Rev. A. M. Nelson, assistant minister at St. Michael's Church.
